How to Earn College Credits with Youtube

How is Youtube Providing College Credit?
Who hasn’t used Youtube to learn more about a subject, right?
Because a lot of people already use Youtube as a learning platform, Google decided to go ahead and partner with Arizona State University (ASU) and Crash Course to create Study Hall.
Study Hall is meant to provide a new affordable and accessible way to earn college credit with video series and remove typical barriers that can affect your chances of getting a post-secondary formal education.
The expectation is to grow up to 12 courses by January 2025, allowing learners to earn credit for the first year of college from one of the best public universities.
The classes follow the same curriculum taught on campus, and they give you the chance to retake the courses until you get the grade you want to add to your transcript.
How Does it Work?
The idea sounds fantastic, right? Now let’s get deep into how it works:
To earn college credits with Youtube, you’ll need to sign up on My Study Hall. Once registered, you’ll have access to all your courses.
They’ll be available to start on March 7th, 2023.
The benefit of studying on this platform is that as you go through the courses, you are also earning the possibility to join the ASU degree program through ASU’s Earned Admissions.

Study Hall Admission Requirements
The main motive for creating Study Hall is that it becomes accessible for everyone. That’s why their requirements are super easy to meet:
- Have a good internet connection
- Have a valid ID or birth certificate if you are under the age of 18
And that’s it!
Meet all of these requirements, and you’ll be able to access all the materials you need right after you are registered for your course.
What Can You Study?
For now, everything sounds amazing, right?
Let’s continue by reviewing whatyou can take from these courses and what kind of educational programs they offer for future college students!
These general education courses are meant to give you college credits covering the basics everyone needs to know for their first year.
The courses are divided into four categories:
- English Composition
- College Math
- US History
- Human Communication

Depending on the course, each has about 17 to 24 video lessons that are 10 to 12 minutes long. These videos are uploaded and free to watch.
However, if you choose to earn credits, you’ll be signing up to begin coursework that consists of 6 to 7 modules with 3 transferable credits for each course.
Study Hall also offers two additional series:
What Happens If I Need Help?
When you become a learner, you automatically become a member of a community that will support you.
But if you need personal assistance, you can go to the part where you signed up at My Study Hall, and contact a “Study Hall Success Coach” through email.
My Study Hall Prices
After watching some of the free Study Hall YouTube videos, you probably decided to go further and earn those credits. But how much does Study Hall cost?
The enrollment fees are:
- $25 per course
- $400 registration fee to receive credits
To begin, you pay a $25-course registration fee, and once you finish the course and get the desired grade, you can register at My Study Hall and pay the fee to receive credits.
It’s worth mentioning that Study Hall courses aren’t eligible for financial aid.
Scholarship Pricing
Based on EducationData, tuition for an average college course at a public university is $1,170; and $4,095 at a private institution.
Study Hall considered that data when deciding prices and created a special scholarship pricing that reduces the registration fee cost and is eligible for anyone who signs up before March 7, 2023.
The reduction will go from $400 to $350 per course, and if you decide to add credit to your transcript by August 9, 2023, you can take up to four for-credit courses at scholarship pricing.
There are no extra requirements to participate in the scholarship. You only need to sign up before the due date mentioned above.
If you are outside the US and are interested in taking advantage of the scholarship pricing, it is good to know that you won’t find any restrictions. You only need to check the admission requirements for the college of your choice, as the requirements for international learning programs can vary.

How to Make The Payment
Once you are finished, in order to get the transfer credit, you’ll need to pay. It is a very simple process that you can do in four steps:
1) Go where the credit registration button is on your course homepage
2) There, you will register for credit
3) Confirm your identity
4) Pay for credits
And that’s it! Set and done!
Process of Getting The Courses on Your Transcript
After you register for credit and pay for what you need, the process of appearing on your official transcript can take up to 14 days.
ASU can’t send transcripts through email or fax, so they partnered with Parchment to provide a more secure ordering, processing, and electronic delivery of your transcript.
To order your ASU transcript, you’ll have to:
1) Go to the Parchment website
2) Press on the button that says “I Would Like To…”
3) Select “order my transcript or credentials”
4) You’ll see a search button where it says “Order From…” Click there and enter the university where you earned your credits, in this case, ASU
5) Follow the 7-step process where you have to log in and fill in your information
If you want to send your transcript to ASU, you can contact Admissions for mailing address information.
