That’s why in this article, we’ll share with you how to use the common app for college applications.

It doesn’t matter if you are a recent graduate from high school or a non-traditional student who’s trying to find their way back to college. We recommend that you always fill out and send more than four college applications inside and outside the Common App since each of them will have different requirements.

We know that keeping track of all of the deadlines for each college can be difficult, especially if you start feeling nervous after sending your applications because you might have doubts about if you filled the applications out correctly. The great news is that the Common App is here to help you

Here at Gradehacker, we have years of experience with all types of college students. We’re always happy to give you all the information and resources you need to improve your college experience, even before starting the application process. Here’s what you need to know about the common app.

What is the Common App?

The Common App is a free online application that provides a single digital admissions file for students and allows them to complete the FAFSA while submitting an admissions application for most higher education institutions in the U.S.

The Common App connects with individual college online systems. Many colleges and universities provide automatic processing and multiple listings to all students entering the application. The Common App functions as a comprehensive admissions resource for all students regardless of school size and academic program.

How Does The Common App Work?

The Common App is a service that colleges and universities use to manage their incoming students. It was developed to overcome many of the limitations and inefficiencies of the usual college application process.

The Common App can be downloaded as a mobile app or a digital application that students can complete, or both. Common App’s members include 10,000 colleges and universities across the U.S.

What You Need To Know To Fill Out The Common App

They have a very intuitive interface for students to apply or transfer to universities and colleges. Here are some of the steps you need to fill out the Common App:

1. Create A List Of Universities And Colleges

You have access to information about every college you are interested in, and you want to apply. You will have links to the virtual tour websites of colleges connected with the Common App, that way; you’ll be able to identify the campus and review their academic offerings and majors.

You can also create a list and add different colleges you like to learn more about and what they can offer you.

2. Understand Each College Has Different Requirements

All colleges have different requirements, and you need to keep that in mind. Some universities may ask you to submit a recommendation letter, others an essay, SAT or ACT scores, different transcripts, or a combination of all these materials

It’s very important to have an eye on each application requirement to ensure that the applications you send to each college can meet their deadline and satisfy their requirements. The Common App website also provides you with the application requirements of many colleges, including:

3. Ask For Letters of Recommendations

This is a very common requirement in most colleges. Normally they ask for one to three letters from your teachers or others. Some universities may be a little picky and ask you for precisely one teacher recommendation letter and another from your guidance counselor.

You can learn more about in our article: Letter of Recommendation For College | What You Should Do

With the common app, this process becomes easier! When you set up the names of the individuals you want to request a letter from, the common app will send them an invitation to join. They will then be guided through the recommendation form, and that’s where they will be able to upload their recommendation letter.

4. Submit Your Application

Once you have all your requirements, essays, and letters, you will be ready to submit your applications. Be sure to complete and send your application by the deadline set by each school.

What Are The Benefits Of Applying With The Common App?

The Common Application is an easy-to-use, safe, and reliable application that students can use to apply to over 800 colleges and universities across the country. You may also be able to use the Common App to reduce or eliminate certain types of fees you pay on the College Board’s SAT and PSAT/NMSQT test, which many low-income families don’t have the means to pay

During 2016 and 2017, nearly 1 million students were able to receive fee waivers to cut about $55 million in costs, and from 2019 to 2020, more than 5.6 million applications were submitted through Common App.

We also strongly encourage all students to review the detailed information on colleges participating in the Common App. This research may help in your application. For example, many colleges are committed to providing equal access for all students, including those who choose to apply for off-campus distance learning. This may include places that have a dual credit program or provide free tuition for low-income students.

Are You Ready To Try The Common App?

The Common Application exists to improve college access and ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to pursue a college education. For students who can overcome the challenges, there are great opportunities for well-qualified students.

A college with barriers to entry may be able to recruit these students. A college that can serve a broader demographic will provide better options for its students and address the needs of its communities.

The Common App is available to download for iOS and for Android devices for free!
